Galaxy S5 Eye Iris Scanner will beat iPhone 5S Touch ID

Despite the huge success of Samsung’s Galaxy Note range, the S series of smartphones has retained the title of flagship for some time. While other manufacturers, such as HTC, are making some promising progress, it is clear that Samsung are the leaders of the Android market.  The S4 was released in a huge fanfare in March of this year and attention is now turning to the S5, which, if the rumors we hear are to be believed, is going to be something special.

Today’s rumor comes from ZDNet Korea who reports that we could see a new Samsung handset launch in February 2014. While the S5 is not actually mentioned by name, the specs that are being touted could only belong to one phone.

The rumors tell us of a quad-HD display with a resolution of 2560 x 1440.  In addition, in a bid to go one better than Apple, with their new Touch ID fingerprint sensor, Samsung are looking to include an eye iris scanner on the new smartphone.
The iPhone 5S was the debut device for a brand new 64-bit processor and, if the specs are true, this new Samsung offering will have an Exynos Octa-core 64-bit chip. As with the S4, a slightly less packed model of the S5 will also be released, featuring the Snapdragon quad-core processor. Both will have a 16 megapixel camera, 4000 mAh batteries and 3 GB RAM.
The S5 should be running on Android 4.4 KitKat as standard, as this is the newest version of firmware. If the rumored launch is true, we should not have too long before we get to see the new offering from Samsung.
